Competency-Based Standardized Curriculum

Competency-based training is an outcomes-based approach where the emphasis is on what comes out of training—what graduates know and can do—rather than what goes into the curriculum. In competency-based education, assessment is embedded in every step of the learning process in order to provide students with guidance and support toward mastery. This heightened level of assessment is designed to build competencies in real time.

Stackable College Credits

Adults rarely finish certificates and degrees in a straight line. They take a course or two, then they need to stop for all kinds of reasons: overtime, travel for work, family demands, unforeseen sickness. A “stackable” program means that if and when adults need to temporarily stop, they can leave training with SOMETHING, even if they haven’t been able to complete a degree.

  • Support completion by building momentum
  • Aligned with employer competency needs
  • Facilitate student transitions

The Applied Manufacturing Technology Pathway Certification is a pathway to higher education. Level 3 training, in combination with structured on-the-job training, allows students to earn the first 26 credits of an A.S. degree in Applied Manufacturing Technology. Remaining class requirements are flexible to accommodate each student’s career aspirations and many are available on-line.

Apprenticeships and On-the-Job Training04012014CredentialingGraphic

Apprenticeships (classroom training and OJT) and On-the-Job Training (formal or informal) take place in the normal working environment, where someone who knows how to do a task shows another how to perform it. OJT is still the most popular method of training but it is normally not the most efficient method.

New employees will learn their jobs somehow. If the only way they have to learn is from fellow workers, they are more apt to learn the wrong techniques, produce more waste, cause safety errors and cost your company more money.

With a structured, monitored OJT, employees receive consistent and effective training regardless of who trains them.  They learn best practices and are trained more quickly and cost efficiently.

Lean Manufacturing Certificates

In conjunction with MassMEP, lean manufacturing is an accelerated workshop that conveys the understanding of the business case for continual improvement as a way to profitably meet rising customer expectation in a volatile and globally competitive market, simultaneously reducing operational costs while improving service and quality.
